Caribbean Chorale of
Tronto |
|
The
Caribbean Chorale of Toronto was established in 1993, following
the desire of some members of The current Musical Director is Rev. Amy
Lee. We are an amateur group i.e. there are no accredited professional musicians within the group. We have, at times, engaged the services of professional musicians (soloists, accompanists) as deemed essential to the performance. Our repertoire ranges from classical through spiritual/ gospel, to contemporary, folk and calypso music. We are a registered non-profit group, operating within the structure of a Board of Directors. As stressed in our Mission Statement, what we do is largely focussed, and linked to the community. We obtain no funding from grants etc., and our operation is largely supported through proceeds from membership fees, and any performances which we stage during the year. We rehearse every Monday night, 7:30-9:30 p.m., September to June. Over the past ten years, our performance schedule has been generally structured around two performances per year, one in the Spring and one at Christmas. On November 10 2007, we presented our first dinner theatre production "Love in Sunset", a musical written by two of our members Leonora Benjamin and Lucy Fields, and produced by Luther Hansraj Productions. This was very well received by an audience of approximately 300, with requests for a repeat performance.St. Paul 's L'Amoreaux has, for approximately 11 years, been extremely generous in permitting the use of their premises as our base of operation. We have therefore over the years donated the funds from one of our Christmas performances to the church. We have also performed at a number of venues in the Greater Toronto Area, including at benefits for many charitable organizations and at fundraising events. In 1993, for the first time, we performed outside of the GTA - travelling to Washington at the invitation of one of the churches there. In May 2005 we accepted an invitation to perform at St. Augustine Church in Brooklyn New York, and following their invitation to return, a visit was made May 2008. The Chorale welcomes persons interested in becoming members, and auditions for all sections are held quarterly. The organization also welcomes offers from individuals or companies interested in becoming sponsors.
